Hanmer Springs Ski Area is a fun ski area just 17km from the alpine resort town of Hanmer Springs. From the top of the field there are great views of the surrounding mountains of St James and Molesworth Stations and the distant peaks of the Nelson Lakes National Park.
Hanmer Springs Ski Area is suited to beginners right through to intermediate and advanced skiers and boarders.
Getting onto the ski runs is via one of the longest poma lifts in New Zealand and by two rope tows. Although not a commercial ski field, there's a centrally heated Day Lodge equipped with stoves, toasted sandwich machines, and tea and coffee facilities when you want to take a break from the skiing.
Getting There:
Head along Clarence Valley road and turn off at St James Station, which is about 10km from Hanmer Springs town. It's then a short and narrow access road. A shuttle runs daily from Hanmer Springs town.
